Seraphim wrote “This microscope is very effortless to use. It is versetile because of the three different strenght lenses & the upper & lower light. It seems quite sturdy. Be aware that you must buy three AA batteries for the lights-it does not come with batteries & we did not have any in the house…we used a cell phone flashlight the night he received it. Comes with a nice kit with several pre-made slides & an “experiment” kit. I moreover bought an additional set of pre-made slides…which he really has enjoyed looking at. He has used the slides to see microscopic things & moreover he has examined every day objects like coins, feathers, fabric. He LOVES it. One of the best gifts we have ever purchased!”
M. Ziebell wrote “Bought this microscope as a present for my 8 year old last Christmas. It is the end of March now & it has seen consistent use since purchase. It is rugged enough to take into the field (although I had to fabricate a carrying case). The optics are very good, the controls simple to master. I wanted a scope that my son could grow into & I am certain that this was the right choice.
Full Disclosure: I enjoy this scope as much as my son does. It has been a lot of pleasant to explore the very small again.”
Grampa Mike wrote “My granddaughter was showing me the inner workings of an aphid wing in her “lab” (room) one day with this microscope, & I was so impressed, particularly when I found out what it cost, I bought one for myself. This is a solid, basic, well built scope, with the added convenience of being battery operated & portable. The focus knob & stage work together smoothly, allowing to focus with astonishing sharpness & clarity. The objectives moreover roll smoothly & snap snuggly into place. The upper light is a nice feature, with plenty of light for viewing solid objects. The lower light however is very bright, making extended viewing difficult, & the diaphragm adjustment makes little difference. I cover it with a piece of thin clear yellow plastic, problem solved. This is a nice microscope for the price, whether you’re a young, budding scientist, or an old geezer like me.”
Sam wrote “Purchased as a gift for this past Christmas. Fast delivery. The kids love it. Seems to be a nice quality product. The only thing was that the caps for the dyes that come with it had somehow come open (I’m guessing during shipping), so it was kind of everywhere when we opened it. Cleaned up nicely though. All-in-all, a satisfactory microscope for kids who like science.”
Fave13 wrote “This is a tremendous first microscope for kids. Purchased for 8-year old daughter who loves science & nature. It is very lightweight surprisingly, yet works as described. Knobs are very kid-friendly & effortless for them to use. Great value, & well packaged inside. No set up required, except for batteries. Very pleased with purchase!”
Justin wrote “This microscope is not exactly going to be immune to damage from kids mis-use yet with a bit of supervision a 6 year old or older can obtain a lot out of it, even if they don’t mount things on the slides or use the staining kit etc. Compared to the mirrored toy microscopes of my youth this offers so much more clarity & LED lighting (top down or bottom up).The kids will leave the light on & flatten whatever AA cells you’ve received in it, however.”
ChrisMoo wrote “A tremendous first microscope for budding young scientists! Microscope has enough features & options to hold their interest – without being too complicated (or fragile) for kids to use themselves. Caution though that parents will need to buy separately additional prepared slides or blank slides – as this comes with too few to hold kids’ interest for very long.”
Sean L wrote “I ordered one of these for Christmas for my daughter. Unfortunately, I didn’t check the box before Christmas Day. Turns out, the one we received was missing the eye piece. Unusable without. So, I sent it back.
The next one I received had the eye piece, yet the light switch would not easily turn on in position two. After some use, it received worse, to the point we couldn’t turn the light on. So I returned it again.
The third one is fine. No problems. I moreover bought two extra to donate to my daughter’s science teacher, & those were fine as well. So just be careful & check when you receive it.”
Glenn H wrote “I researched around for a microscope in the less than 100.00 price range for a gift to my 8 yr old grand daughter. I read the reviews on this & purchased it & had it sent here so I could test it before sending it off. I have to tell you that at this price I can not believe the optics & build quality! I’ll wager that this ‘toy’ would meet or exceed the needs of most adults for occasional use & the pleasant of exploring the micro world. What surprised me is this is not some glued together mess of cheap plastic. All components are actually screwed together & it’s surprisingly well manufactured & designed.
Like most reviews this is probably posted too shortly to determine how long the thing holds up. Flaws, if any, will probably show up in the two way toggle switch & yes, reviews would be more helpful if we all waited a year to post. Aside from that as of yet unfounded fear I have no reservation to promote purchasing it for kids & even adults.”

In the past, one would have required two separate instruments to achieve this; however with the Duo Scope, we have combined the features of a biological microscope and a stereo microscope into a single unit and have made it possible for the user to choose their desired mode, simply by flipping a switch.
