Here are some reviews of cards games for kids:
Tiffany W wrote “If you are a board game person, this one is great… It does not actually have a board, yet it is a box filled with entertainment. This is tremendous to play with family or friends. Groups of 5 to 8 would be best. If you are not in a hurry & you can wait on purchase, the price on Amazon goes up & down on this item. Sometimes it is $23, yet it drops down to $17 if you keep your eye on it… Also, if you are looking into this game, you may be interested in catchphrase, as well. That one is pretty small & only has one part so it travels much more easily & is less to keep track of. If you like games of this, though, you should really have both!”
Liz wrote “I first played this game at a friend’s house almost a decade ago, & it became an instant party classic. Every holiday I bring it along to play with family. It is so easy, & yet so fun. We regularly find ourselves crying we are laughing so hard. It is very effortless to teach new people how to play, & can moreover easily accommodate a large crowd of people. At this point it is complex to find someone who hasn’t played this game, yet if you are one of those people, I highly recommend buying it & inviting a few people over for Apples to Apples night.”
Mary A wrote “Great game. Played with 2 adults & one 14 yr. old around the holidays. All had a satisfactory time, lot of laughs. The 14 yr. old was so engaged he was dealing & handing out the cards interacting with the adults though out the entire game. Did not need to follow any rules – just played with 2 stacks of cards & when finished took another 2 stacks. I highly recommend Apples to Apples. There is moreover a junior version for younger kids.”
M. Larsen wrote “Apples to Apples is our go-to game for gatherings with our friends & family. It is fun, effortless to learn, & a satisfactory game for a variety of people. The Party Box includes over 1,000 red (nouns, usually) & green (nouns, verbs, adverbs) cards. Each card has the play word along with witty descriptions or synonyms. Play begins with the “judge” turning over a green card & the other players putting down a red card which they think best fits the green card OR which they think the judge will pick. It will become obvious after playing what kind of judge your friends or family are: literal or figurative. It never ceases to amaze me which red card my husband picks when he’s the judge — he’s unquestionably figurative to my literal — yet that keeps the game fun!
Other observations:
*I really appreciate that it doesn’t take any special talent or knowledge to play this game, which adds to its wide appeal.
*The instructions are well-written & offer different variations to basic game (i.e, Apple Turnovers – dealing green cards instead of red cards).
*When traveling, we have zipped a few handfuls of cards into a plastic bag — now you have a travel version.
*Fun twist: at the end of the game we read aloud the green cards that we’ve earned to “describe” ourselves.”
E. Phillips wrote “This game is so effortless to play & so fun, It has successfully brought & kept multiple children ranging in ages from cell-phones, video games, & television for hours. The beauty of the game is that anyone can win & every hand gets a bunch of laughs. Way to bring the family together, thank you Apples to Apples.”
G. Denick wrote “A few years back, I was introduced to “Apples to Apples” at a friend’s Thanksgiving. I shortly discovered, & have come to further appreciate over the years, that there is no finer party game! It’s incredibly effortless to pick up, & can accommodate a large number of players. Since there are no “right” or “wrong” answers, anybody can quickly learn how to play, regardless of their age or skill level (within reason- very young children would not be able to handle it). Furthermore, since the game is based on subjective interpretation of the suggestions that the players make, this game has INFINITE replay value.
As an example of one round, we were asked to provide answers from our available cards for things that matched “quiet”. Among those offered were Batman (who can be quite ninja-like, sneaky, & quiet), a mouse (or some other quiet critter, I don’t remember exactly what), & a zuchinni. After much deliberation, the zuchinni came out the victor. See what I mean? Subjective interpretation! “Apples to Apples” is hilarity in a box!”
Chris G wrote “My son frist played this game during a Scouting campout & asked for the game ever since.
The game is very satisfactory because several age groups from middle school through adult can play this game without feeling disadvantaged due to subject matter. Each card includes a short description approximately the name, etc… on the card to assist those understand the nature of the item or subject.
Our first try at playing this game resulted in over three hours of very satisfied play, recommended. One thing is that I believe that four people is a minimum to play this game & having 6 or more is better. Less people means that someone can win rather quickly, & this game does best when we can discuss the answers & why they were picked.”
Momof3boys wrote “My son asked for this for Christmas– the description clearly states for ages 12+, yet I didn’t check it out much, & just noticed a reference to reading level of ages 12+. I figured my kids are satisfactory readers so went with the Party box. It is really a lot of pleasant to play as a family– they can read the cards fine, the trouble though, is that the regular edition has cards that a lot of kids likely have no idea approximately (Jimmy Stewart, Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, etc). It’s not a huge deal, as there are approximately a zillion cards in the box, & not knowing what one is can actually make the game funnier, yet if I had been paying attention, I think we would have had an easier time with the Jr. edition, & just as much fun.”
